Less than a week after the PS3 'slim' & price drop was announced, Microsoft have confirmed that their most expensive model, the Xbox 360 Elite, is getting a price drop of $100, reducing it to a RRP of $449 in Australia, $50 cheaper than the remodelled PS3.

The Pro model of the Xbox 360 is also being phased out, with no more consoles being manufactured.  While both the newly priced Xbox 360 & PS3 are priced at $299 in the USA, the Xbox 360 sees a cheaper price here in Australia, possibly due to the already cheaper $550 it was previously marked at, whereas the PS3 was over $150 more expensive than what it is now.

With the Xbox 360 & PS3 now marked at roughly the same price, the holiday season of 2009 will have some interesting sales statistics by the end of the year. With blockbuster titles such as Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Halo: ODST & Assassin's Creed 2, there's one major winner in this 'console war':  the consumers.

However, one would argue, is the $50 price gap enough to justify not having blu-ray support, free online gaming & an in-built wireless network adapter in the Xbox? Both consoles have their advantages and disadvantages, and with the cheaper, more even price points on both consoles, it's up to the consumer to decide what they want.
